Our next DEF Colorado Springs Drink & Think will be at 7 PM on 6 June at Red Leg Brewing. Our speaker for the month is former Army officer Dan Dwyer, who will offer a rare glimpse into the most significant shift in military strategy in recent memory – the development and adoption of what became known as ‘The Surge’ in Iraq.
In 2007 the Iraq Planning Group at the American Enterprise Institute (a think tank in DC) published a report called Choosing Victory: A Plan for Success in Iraq which went on to become the blueprint for The Surge. Dan was one of only four former military officers in the group, serving alongside GEN(R) Jack Keane and LTG(R) David Barno, and personally briefed President Bush on the report. Currently, Dan is the founder of Vet2BizLife, LLC which is dedicated to the boots to business advancement of veteran entrepreneurs.
For more about Dan’s role and The Surge, check out Fred Kaplan’s book The Insurgents: David Petraeus and the Plot to Change the American Way of War.
