Our next DEF Denver Drink & Think will take place on March 20th at 6 PM at veteran-owned Bent Barley Brewing Company in Aurora. As has been the case in other months, we’ll have an opportunity to reconnect, followed by an overview of what the Defense Entrepreneurs Forum is all about. This month we’ve got Hark Herold lined-up as our guest speaker, whose experience in both the military and entrepreneur communities has great relevance to ongoing efforts here in Denver.
Joe “Hark” Herold is the North Region Executive Director for Bunker Labs, a national non-profit dedicated to helping military veteran and milspouse entrepreneurs realize their dreams. As such, he oversees Bunker Labs operations in 12 states. Additionally, Hark is CEO of Design Thinking Denver, a consulting firm based on the principle that a human-centered approach to innovation can transform organizations and their processes and services. Organizations that keep people at the center of their focus not only succeed, they excel.
As a colonel in the Air Force Reserve, Hark’s final assignment was to help launch AF CyberWorx, the Air Force Cyber Innovation Center, utilizing the Design Thinking, human-centered approach to technology innovation and cadet education while leveraging—and pushing the bounds of—private-public partnerships. Hark has helped military, academic, private industry and non-profits tackle their toughest challenges.
The Defense Entrepreneurs Forum (DEF) exists to promote a culture of innovation in the national security community. The mission of DEF is to “Inspire – Connect – Empower” and involves not only monthly gatherings around the world, but periodic DEFx events in different regions, a national conference each year, and ongoing collaboration via Slack, Facebook and LinkedIn. Our national programs include fellowship opportunties, writing initiativies and an internal think tank in which all members are welcome to participate. Drink & Think events are a foundational way of connecting the national security innovation community.
