Engagement Lead. Responsible for developing and executing the engagement and outreach plan for DEF. This includes working with external partners to create lasting relationships to advance DEF’s mission. Currently, the Engagement Team consists of 3 sub-teams: Congressional Engagement, Private Sector Company Engagement (includes corporate membership), and Public Sector Engagement. Each of these teams is designed to identify organizations with which DEF would like to build relationships, engage with them to initiate a relationship, and ultimately maintain and grow the relationship to advance national security.
Giving Lead. Serves as the National Leadership Team Lead that oversees fundraising for the DEF Annual Conference each year, helps to find committed sponsors for each of our national programs, works closely with the rest of the DEF Finance Team to ensure that revenue targets are met, solicits major gifts and donations, and leads a team of volunteers. Requires approximately 5-10 hours each week, although time commitments may surge during fundraising periods for specific events.
National Programs Team
Firestarter Fellowship Co-Lead. Help be part of the Firestarter Fellowship leadership team. Work directly with our Firestarter Fellows and the fellowship program. Support all phases including application review, marketing and advocacy. Will work closely with the Firestarter Fellowship Lead and National Programs Director. Time commitment is 2-5 hours per week.
Annual Conference Coordinator. Lead all planning and coordination for the annual DEF conference, to be located in Washington, DC this year. Work closely with the DEF leadership team. Responsible for all aspects of conference planning with plenty of support from a diverse and highly capable cadre of DEF volunteer. Will work closely with the National Programs Director. Time commitment is 2-5 hours per week initially, and increasing closer to the conference in September 2019.
Social Media Team. Engages the DEF and national security communities on a variety of social media platforms. Responsible for working as part of marketing team by using Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to provide information to a diverse network. Familiarity with Buffer, live video, and other interactive elements is a plus. Time commitment is 5-10 hours per week.
Community Development Team
Agora Team. Supports monthly event planners and community strategy. Responsible for identifying trends and topics of interest, recommending improved or new mechanisms for supporting the DEF community, and building connections to entrepreneurs, academia, and national security elements in diverse environments. Familiarity with Slack, Google Docs, and Trello is ideal, but training is available. Will work closely with the Community Engagement Director and Community Development Director. Time commitment is 2-5 hours per week.
Community Engagement Team. Help bring new DEF members into the community. Responsible for facilitating a program that welcomes new members into physical and digital communities and determines how DEF can support them. Familiarity with Slack, Google Docs, and Trello is ideal, but training is available. Will work closely with the Agora Director and Community Development Director. Time commitment is 2-5 hours per week.
Topic Coach. Engage and guide the DEF community and the broader national security community through a dialogue about a specific subject. Coaches will use a variety of digital for a to engage the community. Familiarity with or interest in subjects like artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, talent management, and others is needed. Training on different platforms is available. Time commitment is 3-5 hours per month.
